Stickin' It To The Shampoo-Industrial Complex
Rare is the woman courageous enough to plunge herself headfirst into the field of gonzo women's beauty journalism. But I am that woman, yea, for verily I kick ass.
I'm still a libertarian, not a hippie. I swear.

Brush, brush, brush - one hundred strokes a night.
Geez, Mom, stop NAGGING me! I'm, like, grown-up and stuff.
One hundred strokes a night means brushing?
Boy, did I get that one wrong...
I still have a tube of Prell from the 1970s in the shower.
You, of course, are arguing from a biased perspective.
Such a hygiene practice might work in the Northeast, but in Florida, where you start sweating the millisecond you walk outside, regular hair cleaning is a must...
I'm half way with you, Jen.
Years ago, I stopped blindly following the instructions on the shampoo bottles to "lather, rinse, repeat."
Once is enough, every other day.

Off-topic, Cap'n: I tried posting a comment on your blog the other day, and eventually got an email from Google telling me it didn't go through; I guess my comment never made it to the point where your ladyfriend the moderator could get it. Dunno why. Probably because computers seem to bear a visceral hatred of me.
Jennifer,
Your comment showed up.
Thank you for your kind words.
Just 33 days till the wedding.

Today is the 18th, so...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Ms. Abel. Or perhaps I should now refer to you as Ms. Benny? :-)
No kidding, same birthday as my daughter? That explains some things....
And...is it necessarily mutually exclusive to be a hippie or a libertarian? A lot of "hippies" are more libertarian than LP members in my experience.
It's been a while since we've seen anything from Jennifer. I wonder if this whole shampoo thing had some negative side effects.
Six years from the time I read about your giving up shampoo, I finally tried it. I know it's all the rage now, but this post is the first time I heard about it. It will be three weeks Friday of using suave coconut conditioner only, and my hair looks and feels fabulous. It is so soft and wavy, the static is gone, and there is far less hair in the drain than there used to be.
My stylist said it will continue to improve over time so I can't wait to see it in six months.
Thanks for the tip, Jennifer! I can't imagine you ever went back to shampooing. Your hair looked so gorgeous in your after pics, like the Little Mermaid. http://blog.timesunion.com/simplerliving/files/2009/09/jeffpattersonhealthylife.jpg
